Questions About Working Here?
Our People team is here to help with any questions about careers at Temp Postal.
Quick answer
What is it like to work at Temp Postal?
- Fully remote team with asynchronous written communication as the default.
- Engineers own a system end to end, including its on-call behaviour.
- Short interview process built around real work rather than puzzle questions.
- Privacy commitments apply internally too: staff access to mail data is minimal and audited.
How we work
Work is planned in writing and discussed asynchronously, because the team spans several time zones. A proposal is a short document with the problem, the option chosen and the options rejected. Meetings exist for the discussions that genuinely need voices, and are recorded in notes for whoever was asleep.
Deployment is continuous. Small changes go out several times a day behind checks, and the person who wrote a change watches it land. There is no separate operations team to hand failures to, which shapes how carefully people build.
What we look for
Depth in one area matters more than exposure to many. For engineering roles that usually means having operated something in production and having opinions formed by outages rather than by conference talks. For non-engineering roles it means having done the work rather than having managed it.
We also look for people comfortable with the subject matter. Running disposable email means dealing constantly with abuse, deliverability politics and awkward legal questions, and the people who enjoy the work are the ones who find those problems interesting rather than annoying.
Our hiring process
The process is a short written application, a conversation about your background, a paid piece of realistic work sized to a few hours, and a final conversation with the people you would work with. We aim to complete it inside two weeks and we tell you where you stand at each step.
We do not run whiteboard algorithm interviews. The paid exercise is close to the actual job: reading an unfamiliar system, making a scoped change and explaining the trade-offs.
Privacy obligations for staff
Everyone with production access completes privacy training and works under the same retention rules that apply to customer data. Access to message content is restricted to the narrow set of debugging cases that require it, requires a recorded reason, and is logged.
That constraint is a feature of the job. If you want to work on a product where the privacy promises are enforced technically rather than described in a policy page, this is the trade we make.
Frequently asked questions
Is the team fully remote?
Yes. There is no office and no expectation of relocation. We overlap for a few hours most days and keep the rest asynchronous.
Are there open roles right now?
Openings are listed on this page when they exist. When nothing is listed we still read speculative applications and keep strong ones on file for the next opening.
Do you hire junior engineers?
Occasionally, when we have the capacity to mentor properly. We would rather not hire someone junior than hire them into a team with no time to support them.
Is the work exercise paid?
Yes. It is scoped to a few hours and paid at a fair rate whether or not you are offered the role.
What is the interview timeline?
Around two weeks from application to decision. If we are going to be slower than that we say so at the start rather than leaving you waiting.
